My Top 5 Pre-Shoot Tips

If you are reading this blog right now, it most likely means you have a boudoir session booked and coming up soon! I’m so thrilled for you to experience a day full of luxury and to witness the magic that is boudoir photography. But before you get wrapped up in daydreaming about the full-glam and pampering, and of course, the stunning gallery of images you will walk away with, I have a few tips to make the most of your pre-shoot prep so that you can enjoy a stress-free session!

Prep Your Wardrobe

First of all, there are no hard and fast rules for choosing a wardrobe for your session. The ultimate goal is for you to be comfortable and to look stunning in whatever you choose. If this is a once-in-a-lifetime experience for you, I say go big and splurge on a sexy set you wouldn’t normally go for. Or you could shop your own closet to put together the perfect ensemble for your session. Either way, you’ll want to bring at least three options on the day of your session that make you feel sexy as hell! If you’re searching for inspiration, check out my blog post full of tips on finding the perfect lingerie for your boudoir session.

Don’t Forget To Wax In Advance!

If you plan to wax, make sure to do it at least 3-4 days in advance of your session. I know it’s tempting to wait until the day before to ensure there aren’t any quick returning hairs also making their debut in your photos, but it is so important to have a few days buffer to be sure your skin doesn’t have a reaction! While I’m able to eliminate any major skin inconsistencies during my editing process, I know you won’t feel totally confident trying to hide any redness!

Grab a Mani/Pedi

Sometimes we ignore the small details when we’re getting ready for a big day. You’ve picked your outfits, you’ve gotten a wax, and now it’s time to take care of the smallest detail--your nails! It may not seem like a huge deal, but your fingers and toes will be visible in a lot of the shots we’re doing. Getting that mani/pedi will make for a more polished look. (Pun intended.) The boudoir experience is all about feeling your best, so why not start the pampering early?

Get a Good Night’s Sleep

I know it’s hard to sleep when you're excited, but try your best to grab a full eight hours the night before your shoot. If you’re feeling tired the day of your session, it will come through in the pictures, and we want you to feel as good as you’re going to look on that day.

Hydrate and Eat Healthy

It’s going to be super important that you hydrate throughout the week, and especially on the days leading up to your session. A well-hydrated body leads to glowing skin and high energy levels, which are two things you will definitely want to ensure you are able to take the most beautiful pictures. If you’re nervous about the shoot, try meditating instead of reaching for the alcohol or salty snacks. You want to avoid these two things so you’re not depleting your body or skin of vital nutrients, which can make your skin look dry. When you’re planning what to eat on the day of your session, aim for healthy snacks like fruits, veggies and food packed with protein. You’ll need energy during the session, and while carbs can give you a quick boost, they won’t sustain you throughout the day. Skip the carbs before and treat yourself with a big bowl of pasta right after!

With these tips, you’ll feel totally prepared for your big day! But my most important piece of advice is to get excited about a day full of pampering, empowerment and self-love! And If you’ve made it this far and haven’t yet booked a session, what are you waiting for?! Availability is going fast, so don’t wait!
